Italian vs. American coffee

Since it has been a topic of late at Beezhouse, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight the difference in advertising for the two competing coffee brands - illy and Starbucks!
Which do you prefer?
or
Don’t these two ads say so much about their cultures and therefore brands?

They say one thing about their culture - neither knows how to make a decent ad!

I was thinking about these ads while I was driving today and they both pissed me off more than when I wrote my original comment.
Starbucks - I hate it no matter what it does. What’s the song in the ad? Is that ‘Devilgate Dive’? Never can remember, but who cares when you’ve heard it at every Nth American sporting event over the last fifteen years. Despite being an ardent fan of the NHL, I despise the mob-mentality American sporting culture that makes it way into ads.
Illy - this ad is actually quite clever, if you have a PhD in Art History, which I do not have. I would assume that I am not in a minority on this one either. I recognise a couple of references but anything else? Pretentious crap. Will my coffee taste any better because I recognised an obscure Rene Magritte reference? What do you think?

Illy - well it didn’t load as fast as the starfucks ad but at least it had some creativity… Nahh, I’m just biased!
As to Starfucks, can I just remind you that its not even coffee they are trying to sell now!!!! Carbonated coffee???
