Just Plain Cool

Unfortunately, I happened to miss Nike Savvas’ exhibition Atomic: full of love, full of wonder. Probably because I don’t really care too much for art. Still hasn’t stopped me talking about how I absolutely must go to see the Picasso exhibition on at the NGV right now. Anyway, I stumbled across this image while searching for something else and was struck by its visual effect. Apparently, it was even more striking ‘in the flesh’, when a few industrial fans were applied to create a ripple effect through the balls.

You’re probably thinking right now that the image looks really familiar, like something you might have seen on television? Perhaps the Sony Bravia ad? Wish I could say I was the first to draw this comparison but it seems I’m three months too late.

At the moment, the DayDreamer’s girlfriend is currently off in New Zealand. She works in IT and is currently at Microsoft’s TechEd in Auckland. (Think of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference just held in San Fran and you get the picture). Now the company she works for is… well… loved… by Microsoft. Now it seems that the product that they produce will only work effectively with IE. Using Firefox. Why? Have a Mac? Forget about it! It seems that ‘corporates’ only use and are interested in IE. Now before I go on… settle down BGE! Your rant will probably come from the same direction that mine did! I was told that in the “real world”… I think this is code for men in suits, the only people that matter?!?…, that people only cared about IE. Corporate Barbie indeed! Now regular readers of all our blogs will know of our collective disgust at Microsoft and their products. Whether it be on Idle Thoughts, in the Carpark, over at Brand Kudos or indeed in the BEEZHOUSE, we haven’t been shy about launching into the giant from Redmond. (more…)

Winners & Losers

The last month in the Middle East certainly has been fascinating. Remember the gold old days when you went to war? Someone was right and someone was a megalomaniac. It was clear back in those days. Along came the Korean and Vietnam wars - the concept of liberating oppressed people. Well, people who happened to live under communist regimes. We had an oil war that also sported a megalomaniac, and then a couple of wars that got back to the liberation theme with a terrorism twist.

But the recent stoush between Israel and Hezbollah was something different. There was no oil at stake (not for the directly involved parties) and there was no oppressive regime. There were hostages and rockets and widespread destruction, oh my! But did anyone actually win? Well, yes… and no. (more…)
