A little while ago, we chronicled the death of a friend’s iPod here and here. A distressing, and occasionally humourous, incident. It is with great joy that I announce the replacement of the departed iPod.

An 80GB monster, it seemed appropriated to name it ‘Gigantor’. As impressive as this piece of technology is, I must say it has stirred a certain amount of envy in yours truly. I own a 4GB nano, a wonderful piece of equipment which suits my purposes perfectly. While after eight months of ownership, Apple was kind enough to release a new version, I wasn’t terribly upset (I’d buy the silver this time around and would have to go for 8GB, just because).

No, my envy lies not with equipment comparison. My gripe is threefold:
1. Gigantor has a screen with a clearer picture than my 60cm flatscreen television.
2. Gigantor has a storage capacity four times that of my iBook.
3. Gigantor costs less than either machine individually.

I was having a good old bitch about these facts when one of my staff was heard to quip, “But he’s not going to have a whole heap of mates over to watch a movie on the iPod”. Who needs friends when you have Gigantor?
